Local Missions
These Deacon lead ministries are a major part of our missions focus. We look forward to serving within the shadow of our steeple because this allows us to display the greatness of Christ to our fellow man, many of whom we don’t know and may never see again this side of heaven. Projects for families and individuals in our community provide us with ample opportunities to serve our Lord by serving his people. We meet peoples needs where they are, then doors are open to give these people real lasting help. Help only Jesus can provide. This year we continue our local ministry with our “Thanksgiving Day Community Meal”. Our “Handy Man Ministry” started in 2012 to the people of our church that needed help with projects they couldn’t do or couldn’t afford. This has recently spread to other neighborhoods around our church. We are blessed to continue a ministry with other churches called “My Father’s House” which is a ministry to local homeless families through the Cooperative Christian Ministries organization. Our community outreach doesn’t stop there because in 2014 we started a ministry called “Agape Bags for the homeless“. This is a ministry that allows different groups in our church to prepare gallon sized ziploc bags with items for different times of the year such as protein bars, gloves, toboggans and socks for the winter and sunscreen, bottled water, soap and a cap for the summer. We distribute these to our church members. They in turn pass these out as our church body cross paths with homeless people as they go thru their daily routines. Football Meals FBC embarked on an exciting new ministry in the fall of 2014 by starting the “Pre-Game Football Meals” for local high school football teams. This gives us an excellent opportunity to serve young men AND present the Gospel. Pregame football meals for high schools as we share the Gospel. Also, our youth attend local high schools that have “Bible Clubs”. These clubs are supported thru local donations. Our church has been face to face with some of these teachers and realize that they are the only Jesus these kids see in high school. FBC is committed to helping these teachers spread the Gospel any way possible. We are fortunate to be able to support a local AWANA missionary and his family along with The Baptist Sharing House and the Benevolent Fund all of which reach people who have immediate needs concerning finances, food and clothing. Locally, we support the Baptist Sharing House and The Cooperative Christian Ministry through our Mission First Offering.

Regional Missions

Our statewide missions focuses on our state of North Carolina. Our calling has included many trips to the flood damaged coastal region of Grifton NC. The  “Family on Missions” ministry team went to Morehead City NC in 2011.  A team from FBC went to Bertie County to work with the Samaritan’s Purse in the tornado damaged area near the coast in 2011. In 2013 several families from FBC came together to answer the call for help in the Catawba region due to the flood that damaged so many homes. The Baptist Children’s Home is another way we support or statewide missions. They provide homes for children who have no family or home of their own. Our church members collect paper goods and non-perishables to send to these houses. We have made several trips to the Thomasville NC location to take our kids and youth and allow them to take part in the support for this great ministry. We are working on a regular basis with BAM, The Baptist Ageing Ministry, helping those in need who are senior citizens. We support the NC Baptist Mission offering every year.

National Missions

Our regional missions have include Summerville WV(2008), Columbiana AL(2009). These trips have included construction on houses of needy people, VBS in local communities during the day and working on houses with YOM for elderly people. Whole families got to participate in these trips, Mom & Dad as well as children. Family on Missions is a valuable tool in mentoring children. There is no better way to demonstrate missions like learning from and with Mom and Dad. Our Youth traveled to Philadelphia PA. in 2009 and in 2012 our Youth went to Huntington WV. to work with YOM on house remodeling due to recent tornadoes. July 2004 saw our youth travel to Washington DC and work in the inner city projects with kids at a local YMCA. They did musical concerts in the park and held a VBS for children of a local neighborhood. Our 2021 mission trip took us to Wasilla Alaska to work with a church reaching out to local children thru sports. We gladly support the Annie Armstrong Mission offering every year.

Foreign Missions

Missions – Acts 1:8

Our missions focus at First Baptist Church is global and based on Act 1:8, where we are called by Jesus to go to “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth”. The great commission in Matthew 28:17 calls us to “go and make disciples of all the nations”. This Global focus includes local missions, Regional missions(statewide), National missions and foreign missions.

In 2016 we returned to Belize and Guatemala. We believe in being relational with these people as we help and minister to them. Our team in Guatemala did double duty at the medical missions center and the orphanage this year. The Belize team worked with WOL doing their English speaking Bible camp. n 2015, we will have our first ever Missions Conference. The First weekend in March we will host David Horner, Senior Pastor at Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, to preach on that Sunday morning. We will also host Missionaries from Belize and Guatemala to speak at events that weekend. Also, we are looking to the month of July to return to Belize and September to go back to Guatemala. In 2014, two ministry teams traveled abroad. In July we sent a team to Belize and worked with Word of Life. In September we returned to Quetzaltenango to work with The Baptist Men on Mission at the medical facility they started back in 2010.        In 2012, we took a ministry team to Guatemala in September and In November our Preschool Director visited the Word of Life camp in Guatemala City to help them with their summer Bible Camp. In 2010, we were blessed to send 2 ministry teams to the foreign countries of South Africa and the Dominican Republic. Lottie Moon in many ways taught the world how to do missions. We collect this missions offering in December to support foreign missions of the Southern Baptist Convention.
